How to prevent your skin from skin cancer?
Here are some tips which you can follow to protect your skin from the damaging effects of sun exposure and lessen your risk of skin cancer.
Apply sunscreen every day
Skin that will not be covered by clothing requires sunscreen when you go outside your home or office, even on cloudy days. Again and again, apply the sunscreen approximately every two hours, or after swimming or sweating.
Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects the skin against UVA and UVB rays and that has a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30.
Use 1 ounce of sunscreen, an amount that is approximately equal to the size of your palm. Completely rub the sunscreen into the skin. Don't forget to apply the sunscreen on the top of your feet, the backside of your neck, your ears, and the top of your head.
Seek shade
Remember that the sun's rays are at an extreme from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If your shadow is shorter than you are, seek some shadow or sit/stand in the shade.
Protect your skin with clothing.
When you are going out wear a full-sleeved shirt, pants, a hat or a cap and sunglasses. You need to take extra precautionary measurements near water, sand or snow as they reflect the sunrays and intensify the damaging rays of the sun, it can increase the chances of sunburn.
Get vitamin D safely
Eat a healthy diet that includes foods usually rich in vitamin D, or take vitamin D supplements.
Do not seek the sun
If you desire to change the color of your body a bit dark, consider using a self-tanning product, but continue to use sunscreen with it. Don't use tanning beds. Just like the sun, ultraviolet light from tanning beds can cause wrinkling, age spots and even can lead to skin cancer
Look at your skin for the signs of skin cancer
It's best practice to examine your body once or twice a year. Examining your skin and identifying your moles as they are the key to detecting skin cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages. If you detect some moles that are changing, growing or bleeding, see your dermatologist as soon as possible.
